New BOE President Discusses Leadership Role with WCBC

January 13th, 2021 by WCBC Radio

Following Tuesday's 3-2 vote by the Allegany County Board of Education to install Crystal Bender as board president, Bender called in to WCBC's Dave Norman Show Wednesday morning to discuss her plans, moving forward….

Bender was nominated for the position by board member David Bohn who noted that she was the top vote getter in the November election and added that she would be impartial. Member Deb Frank nominated Tammy Fraley to continue to serve as president, pointing to her experience and knowledge of the education system. Bender was elected by a 3-2 vote with Bohn, Robert Farrell and herself voting in the affirmative. Frank and Fraley opposed, voting instead for Fraley. Frank then nominated Fraley to serve as vice-president, but that also failed, with Farrell being elected to that post by a 3-2 vote.
