July 15th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

The Cumberland Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) announced Tuesday that Matthew Miller will lead the organization as its Executive Director commencing September 1, 2020.  Miller will replace Paul Kelly who will be stepping down from the position at the end of next month. Miller has been with the organization since its creation, and previously served as Economic Development Specialist where he was fully focused on, and attentive to, citizens thoughts and concerns while leading job creation efforts and working to improve the quality of life for City residents. CEDC Board Chairman Jonathan Hutcherson said that Miller’s local expertise in business development, workforce development, business attraction, retention and expansion will serve him well in this new role. Miller tells WCBC News that he is looking forward to the challenge…

I’ve made harsh comments about CEDC in the past. Those have been focused on an apparent lack of visible results.
I will discontinue with those comments and will wait and see what the future holds.
I wish Mr. Miller the best of luck in taking Cumberland and the area in a better direction.

Did they even advertise the position? Did the CEDC even consider anyone else? A full open search for a new executive director could help the CEDC turn a new page in their troubled history, but they chose someone who is responsible for their history of incomplete projects and failed results. Sadly I am not surprised they made this idiotic hire.
