New Pressure On Gov. Hogan To Open Up More Mental Health Beds In State Facilities

There is new pressure on Maryland Governor Larry Hogan to open up more mental health beds in state facilities. The union representing state health employees called the problem a public health crisis. The issue is that people charged with crimes have to sit too long in detention facilities when they really need mental health treatment. The problem might seep in to the governor's race next year. Citing employee safety and soaring overtime costs, the union representing state health employees again called on the governor to increase staffing in mental health hospitals. At a recent public rally, Union President Patrick Moran called this situation a public health crisis that needs immediate attention from the governor.
