New State Law Sets Up Review Board to Evaluate Drug Prices

A state law took effect in Maryland this week that takes on large pharmaceutical companies by creating a prescription drug affordability board tasked with tackling rising prescription costs. The new law sets up a first in the nation, a Prescription Drug Affordability Board which will evaluate drug prices and by 2022, set limits on what state county and local governments pay for prescription drugs for employees.  Vinny DeMarco, president of the Maryland Citizens Health Initiative which lobbied lawmakers to pass this bill, told WBAL that although the law targets government employees,  there will be a trickledown effect that will benefit all Marylanders…
