Notice of Funding Availability for Performance Incentive Grant Fund announced

October 15th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

The Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention today announced that it has released the Notice of Funding Availability for the Performance Incentive Grant Fund. The $3.4 million available through this grant program comes from savings resulting from the first year of reforms under the Justice Reinvestment Act in Maryland, signed into law in 2016. Outcomes of Performance Incentive Grant Fund-funded programs will be monitored by the Justice Reinvestment Oversight Board and performance measures will be set by the Local Government Justice Reinvestment Commission.

The Justice Reinvestment Act is a data-driven approach to improving public safety, reducing corrections spending, and reinvesting savings into evidence-based strategies to reduce crime and recidivism. Reforms are focused on safely reducing Maryland’s prison population by incorporating more evidence-based programming to improve reentry outcomes, reduce impacts of incarceration on communities, provide more resources to victims of crime, and connect nonviolent offenders with behavioral health needs to community treatment and support.
