The National Rifle Association is taking aim at one of its own- running a political ad against U.S. Senator Joe Manchin. The West Virginia democrat, an avowed gun enthusiast and lifetime member of the NRA, is now being hit with an ad from the organization in his home state. Manchin was one of the leading voices in the Senate for a bipartisan effort to expand the background check system on firearm sales. A conservative Democrat, Manchin made news in December when he said the Newtown elementary school massacre changed his views on gun control. According to an NRA spokesman it is paying $100,000 to run the ad in heavy rotation during newscasts in West Virginia.
