Officials Continue Monitoring Derailed Train Fire

August 2nd, 2017 by WCBC Radio

The entire town of Hyndman remained under an evacuation order Wednesday evening as a fire continued to burn.

WCBC News has learned that all of the residents of the town have either opted to spend the night with family or friends, or accepted an offer from CSX for a hoten room.

Officials are monitoring the fire and making a determination on safety every six hours.  Because of a fear of explosion, some residents have been told the evacuation could go on for two to three days.

32 cars were involved in the derailment.  Emergency responders from Bedford, Somerset, and Allegany Counties were among the first to arrive at the scene of the 5 AM accident.
