One In Five County Residents Have Earned A Bachelor’s Degree Or Higher

According to the latest statistics, fewer  than one in five Allegany County residents, 16.3 percent, have earned a bachelor’s degree or higher. The county ranks 22 of Maryland’s 24 jurisdictions. Allegany County Commissioners President Bill Valentine tells WCBC News that the hope is that the “Opportunity Scholarship” established by the commissioners in 2014 will work toward improving those numbers. He said many local residents never have the opportunity to pursue a college degree because of their economic situation…
