Police Arrest Woman Passing Counterfeit Currency

On March 28, 2019 at 12:53 am, the Cumberland Police were dispatched to a business on Frederick Street for a counterfeiting complaint.  Upon arrival officers were informed that a female identified as Shandi Porter-Wahl, age 37, of Cumberland, MD, had attempted to purchase items with counterfeit currency.  It was further learned that Porter-Wahl had fled the area before officers arrived.  Officers located Porter-Wahl after a brief search of the area.  When officers contacted Porter-Wahl they obtained consent to search her person for further counterfeit currency.  During the search, officers located a scheduled prescription medication not prescribed to her and paraphernalia.  Subsequently, Porter-Wahl was arrested for knowingly and unlawfully using counterfeit currency, possession of CDS not marijuana, possession of CDS paraphernalia, and prescription bottle remove label.  Poter-Wahl was later taken to District Court for her Initial Appearance and released on her own recognizance pending trail.
