Police Investigated Incident, Candidate Denies Making Threat

May 2nd, 2018 by WCBC Radio

Cumberland Mayor Brian Grim raised eyebrows when he told reporters from WCBC and The Cumberland Times News that he had not invited fellow mayoral candidate Robin Hood Constitution to an open forum because the candidate had threatened him.

WCBC News has obtained a Cumberland Police report from June 14th of last year which says that Mark Shryock, which was Constitution’s name before he changed it, had become upset while inquiring about taxes on homes he owns in the city.  According to the report, he told a woman who works in the office that he would like to shoot everyone, including police, the mayor, judges and any lawyers associated with the city.

The employee contacted Shryock’s brother, who apparently intervened and shortly thereafter, Mark Shryock called to apologize.  After consultations with those involved, police opted not to file charges in the case and closed the investigation.

For his part, Constitution told WCBC that he did not threaten the mayor, and asked if he would be invited to the WCBC Candidate Forum.  He was pleased when he was informed that, as an official candidate, he would be.
