May 14th, 2014 by WCBC Radio

On Monday, May 12, 2014 an officer from the Cumberland City Police Department was on patrol in the area of Spring Street, when he observed a vehicle fail to signal its intention to turn and fail to stop at a clearly marked stop sign posted at Park Street.  The officer stopped the vehicle and made contact with the driver, Craig Allen Ritchie Jr.  While the officer was speaking with Ritchie, he observed an unspent 12 gauge shotgun shell lying in plain view on the driver's side floor board.  After stepping away from the vehicle the officer returned to the driver's window when he observed Ritchie to have both hands on his right front pants pocket.  A second officer who arrived on the scene observed Ritchie making furtive movements in the area of his right front pants pocket.  Due to Mr. Ritchie's movements, the officer instructed Ritchie to exit the vehicle and conducted a pat down of his person.  During the pat down, the officer detected a hard cylindrical object concealed within Ritchie's pants pocket.  The officer retrieved the object and observed a clear cellophane cigarette wrapper stuck to a small canister.  The officer observed the wrapper to contain a white in color residue.  Upon the officer examining the canister, he observed it to contain six (6) yellow in color, round pills that were later identified as Klonopin a schedule four narcotic.  Mr. Ritchie was placed under arrest and transported to the Cumberland City Police Department for processing.  Mr. Ritchie was taken before the District Court Commissioner and later released on his own personal recognizance.
