Police Warn of Scam

November 6th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

The Cumberland Police Department would like to warn residents about a scam that has been occurring within the area. Citizens are getting phone calls from an unknown caller claiming to be from a electric company. The caller tells the citizens that their electric bill is currently past due and will be terminated immediately if a payment is not made. The caller will then attempt to obtain a credit card number for payment. Citizens should be aware that the electric company usually does not make phone calls to collect payments and most is done through the US mail. If you are unaware and receive this type of phone call we urge citizens to not provide any personal information to the caller including banking information and to hang up and contact your electric provider.
