Potomac River Public Access Boat Ramp Planning Continues

Planning remains underway for a possible public access boat ramp into the Potomac River that might attract more tourists and local people to the Canal Place heritage area. Representatives from the state Department of Natural Resources, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and other agencies discussed the proposal with members of the Canal Place Preservation and Development during a 90 minute meeting Wednesday morning at the City of Cumberland’s Public Safety Building on Bedford Street.  The DNR has taken the lead on a study which will look at an area from about Moose Curve to the Canal Place grounds as a possible site for the ramp; as well as a second site. The idea has been under consideration for about a year.
