Revised Policy Designed for Early Alerting on Teacher Misconduct

Following some high profile incidents of inappropriate relationships between staff and students in the public school system- the Allegany County Board of Education has approved some language revisions to the existing policy. It was just June of last year that a Mountain Ridge High School teacher was sentenced in Allegany County Circuit Court to serve one year in the county jail for his sexual involvement with two teenage female students.  During the investigation into that case, there were strong public criticisms against the board of education that the situation should and could have been dealt with much earlier- with suggestions that it was common knowledge among the community that the teacher in question was involved with students.  Board attorney Gary Hanna, during this week’s work session, said that the revised policy is designed to help alert the administration early on about such potential problems…
