With support growing for the proposed Cumberland River Park project at Canal Place, a Rivers and Rails Festival to raise funds and awareness of the project will be held in the late summer. The River Project calls for a river park at the confluence of the North Branch of the Potomac River and Wills Creek behind Canal Place. The project will feature a viewing area and elevated walking pier, water access with kayak whitewater features, 3.2-mile river walk loop trail, an overlook and parking. The project will not focus on removing the industrial dam beneath the Cumberland-Ridgeley, West Virginia bridge.
