Road Incidents Shut Down Major Arteries

January 24th, 2016 by WCBC Radio

Maryland Governor Larry Hogan closed down the state’s two main arteries overnight.  Interstate 70 was closed from Hagerstown to Baltimore, while Interstate 270 was also shut down from Frederick to Washington.  Several tractor trailers were involved in incidents that needed to be cleared so travel could occur unimpeded.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike had to be shut down for about 24 hours beginning Friday night in the area of the Allegheny Tunnel between Bedford and Somerset.  Jackknifed tractor trailers in the westbound lanes were the initial cause of the backup, which included several school buses and the Duquesne Men’s Basketball team.

If you’re wondering about road conditions and when that plow might visit your road or street, you may be waiting awhile.  Authorities have been tending to the main arteries as a priority, and will continue that policy today.  Primary routes are generally passable, although officials are discouraging residents from sightseeing for the time being.
