Robertson Comments on Controversial Traffic Stop

July 18th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

Allegany County Sheriff Craig Robertson tells WCBC News that accusations of racism against local law enforcement officers appear unfounded. Cumberland resident James Wormack, a 61 year old African American, claims that he was recently pulled over for a minor traffic violation and he believes the stop was made simply because he is black. He says he was stopped for a minor infraction by a Sheriff’s Deputy, but ultimately a city policeman and drug dog were called to the scene. The Sheriff says that from everything he has read about the incident, there are no indications that any racial slurs were used or any other evidence presented that would conclude the traffic stop was made based on Wormack’s race…

Sheriff I would have liked an explanation as to why for a minor offence you would call the drug dog to the scene.

Is the sheriff saying that it is normal for a drug dog to be brought in after being pulled over for something hanging on the rear view mirror? If not, why was the dog called in? Not sure this would happen to a middle age white guy in church clothes.

Robertson loses all credibility if he does not address why a drug dog was called to the scene. I will hold off judgement until then, but this fishy to me.
