Senator Cardin to visit Allegany County

Thursday, April 13 and Friday, April 14, U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.) will take his “ListenInMD” tour, which aims to ensure that all Marylanders have regular opportunities to discuss key issues directly with the senator, throughout Western Maryland, where he will join local veterans, students, advocates for historic preservation and public health, elected and municipal officials, and many others to discuss their priorities.

Thursday, April 13 at 12:30 PM, Senator Cardin will lead a roundtable discussion on the need to better serve those who have served our country, particularly in terms of access to quality health care. The senator will be joined by military veterans and their families, as well as by experts in delivering the support current and former service members need, in a conversation on the ongoing efforts to reform the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and related federal agencies.

Thursday, April 13 at 2:00 PM, Senator Cardin will take part in a walking tour of the Downtown Cumberland Historic District that will highlight past and current projects that have received state and federal tax credits or may be seeking them in the future. Senator Cardin, who has recently introduced bipartisan legislation that will expand the availability of historic preservation tax credits in rural communities and small towns across Maryland, will discuss the urgent need for an expanded availability of tax credits to enable more projects of this type.

Friday, April 14 at 9:30 AM, Senator Cardin will join the leaders of small businesses that depend on federal contracting to discuss the importance of the Small Business Administration Historically Underutilized Business Zones, known as HUBZones, which incentivize economic development in distressed areas. The HUBZone program allows contracting officers to utilize additional tools for qualified businesses in qualified areas. Senator Cardin has introduced legislation to ensure that many Western Maryland businesses continue to be well-served by the program after recent shifts in eligibility standards disqualified them.
