Amidst a flurry of rumors in the region throughout the day Wednesday, the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office released a brief statement attempting to clarify the situation. It states: “in reference to the rumor of an escape from the prison in Somerset County Pa, we have spoken to officials with the PA State Police in Somerset County. They assure us that there has been no escape from any institution there. We can also report that there has been no notification of any escape from any institution in the Cumberland area. Local residents have been concerned about many rumors this afternoon, but there has been no official notification or confirmation of any escapes”
