Steam Engine 1309 Still Needs Rehabilitation

The original goal was to have a fully restored steam engine up and running in 2017 for the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad- however that never happened- and escalating costs for the project has left that project in limbo as the 2018 season gets up and running. The tourist train is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year and while there will be additional themed excursions- steam engine 1309 is not part of the plans. Cost for rehabbing the engine has hit the $2 million mark- and with county and state sources tapped at this point- it leaves the railroad scrambling to find the remaining $500,000.  Mike Brant serves as chair of the railroad’s board of directors…
