Teacher Injured Breaking Up Fight

February 3rd, 2018 by WCBC Radio

The Cumberland Times News reports a Keyser High School teacher was injured Thursday afternoon when he attempted to break up a fight between two students. Principal Mike Lewis said Friday the altercation began in a classroom just before 2:30 p.m. and the teacher intervened.

“They were tangled and went to the gound at that point,” Lewis said. “The teacher had his leg broken — dislocated from the fall.”

Lewis praised the quick response from the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office and the New Creek Volunteer Fire Department, which he said arrived “at the blink of an eye.”

The teacher was transported to an area hospital for treatment, as was one of the students involved in the fight as a precautionary measure, Lewis said.

The other student involved in the fight was escorted from the building by police, Lewis said.

Any disciplinary action would be in accordance with Mineral County Schools’ policy.

Students remained in classes during the incident
