Three BoE Candidates Concerned With Chinese Immersion Program

The three candidates running as an alliance for a seat on the Allegany County School Board each expressed various levels of concern this week with the school system’s Chinese Immersion Program. The educational course is available at West Side Elementary School and Braddock Middle School and has approximately 120 students. The immersion program includes seven Chinese instructors teaching Chinese Mandarin language with math, science and culture. The program is supported by two entities. Hanban, which is a language-based organization that provides teachers and is an affiliate of the Chinese Ministry of Education.
