Troopers Continue Haystack Mountain Enforcement Initiative

December 3rd, 2019 by WCBC Radio

Maryland State Troopers are continuing their focused traffic enforcement on Interstate 68 in the Haystack Mountain area as part of a coordinated response to reduce crashes in the region, especially those involving commercial vehicles. Troopers from the Cumberland barrack have been conducting speed enforcement on both sides of Interstate 68 east and west of Haystack. During the month of November, barrack troopers initiated 615 traffic stops for speeding and other violations. In addition, troopers assigned to the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVED) at Finzel, initiated 86 stops on commercial vehicles for traffic violations in conjunction with completing 86 vehicle inspections. This resulted in placing 10 commercial motor vehicles and 3 drivers out of service.

There were no responses for commercial motor vehicle crashes during the period; however, there was one crash reported involving a passenger vehicle. Maryland state troopers are committed to the safety of all those traveling on our highways in any part of our state. Troopers from the Cumberland Barrack are deployed to areas where crash and traffic stop data indicate enforcement is needed most. Enforcement focus will continue on I-68 in the area of Haystack Mountain for the indefinite future.
