During the snow storm on 01.12.2016, from approximately 5 PM through 8 PM, Deputies of the Allegany County Sheriff's Office as well as allied agencies responded to numerous motor vehicle crashes across Allegany County. The Sheriff's Office responded to 7 crashes as well as numerous traffic complaints involving vehicles that were stuck on icy roads throughout the event. Deputies also happened upon numerous traffic problems while responding to and from calls. Deputies and allied agencies were forced to temporarily close several roads in the county including Rt. 51, Braddock Road and others until the roads could be treated. The icy conditions significantly affected response times for personnel responding to the various traffic incidents. A snow emergency plan was put into effect at 4:30 PM for the county and was still in effect as of 11:00 PM.
