West End Disturbance Leads to Assault Arrest

On Thursday, December 20th, 2018, at approx. 620pm, The Cumberland City Police responded to a Cumberland St address for the report of a possible arson. Once on scene, Officers learned that a male in the home, Charles Joseph Trabing III, had made threats to burn his home down and had started a small fire inside the home. The Cumberland Fire Dept. was called upon to extinguish the fire inside the home. During the investigation, It was also learned that Trabing had allegedly assaulted a family member in the home and consumed an unknown amount of prescription medications. Trabing was transported to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for evaluation. Once released, Trabing returned to the home and again became disruptive. Officers responded back to the residence to place Trabing under arrest for assault and arson charges. Trabing then became argumentative and began resisting arrest, and assaulted officers on scene. Trabing was then transported to the station for processing. Trabing was taken before the District Court Commissioner for his initial appearance where he was held without bond.

Arrested: Charles Joseph Trabing III   Age:  61

Charges: Assault 2nd degree x2, Arson 1st degree, Arson/Threat,

Disorderly Conduct, Resisting Arrest, Fail to Obey.
