Westernport Plans To Use Grant To Demolish Blighted Properties

December 21st, 2016 by WCBC Radio

The town of Westernport plans to utilize a Community Enhancement grant to tear down four dilapidated properties on four separate streets. The properties are located on Riordon Road; Vine Street; Wood Street; and Main Street and are being demolished as a cost of $15,300 and an additional $3,600 in landfill costs. The transaction is the result of the Allegany County Community Enhancement program which  is designed to assist municipalities in addressing community development needs that are unique to their community. The purpose of the program is to provide grant funds to municipalities within the county for purchasing and demolishing blighted residential buildings. Westernport Mayor Daniel Laffey thanked the county commissioners for the assistance, and looks forward to similar projects in the future…
