WV Lawmaker Plans To Re-Introduce Bill To Increase Age To Legally Purchase Tobacco Products

A West Virginia state lawmaker plans to re-introduce legislation that would increase the age to legally use tobacco products in West Virginia from 18 to 21.  Senator Tom Takubo, R-Kanawha, introduced a measure last legislative session to increase the age and while the Senate approved the measure with a 20-14 vote, the legislation failed to get out of a House Committee. Maryland lawmakers approved a similar bill this year that went into effect October 1st.  Critics have argued that Takubo’s proposal infringes on personal freedoms- and while he acknowledges that position as having some merit- he believes health issues should come first…
