Cumberland residents may soon see new procedures put in place to deal with code enforcement issues. The city’s department of Community Development is working on revising procedures to shorten the time between complaints and resolution from months to weeks. Abatement issues include high grass, junk and debris, and properties unfit for habitation. Mayor Ray Morriss said the revision to the timeline allows the city to act faster…
“When you’re informed of the issue, you’ll have seven days to correct. If you haven’t done it in seven days, then we’ll go ahead and abate the property. If that means cutting the grass, we’ll go ahead and have a contractor cut the grass, take care of whatever the issue was.”
