Maryland’s Department of Natural Resources is reminding residents that black bears are in a period of increased feeding activity before their winter hibernation. Bears will travel across roads more frequently and may become more attracted to human-provided food sources, losing their natural fear of humans. This can be dangerous for animals and people alike. Residents should be sure to secure trash and pet food in a place where bears cannot access them and delay filling bird feeders until winter.
