Allegany County Board of Education Announces New Superintendent

May 7th, 2025 by WCBC Radio

The Allegany County Board of Education announced Tuesday that the new Superintendent of schools will be Dr. Mike Martirano.  Dr. Martirano is a county native, having attended Beall High School.  He was most recently the superintendent of schools for Howard County and has also served as state Superintendent of schools in West Virginia.   Dr. Martirano addressed the board briefly after the announcement…

“All that I am today—the success that I have experienced in the educational arena—are all attributed to the community that I grew up in in Allegany County.  I absolutely love Allegany County.  It’s where my roots are from.  I came from two large families in the county.  The Martirano family.  The Carter family in Mount Savage, and education was a major part of that.  Through my life, I did experience some challenges and I was eventually raised by the Arnone family—Moose and Ellen Arnone.  They provided such love and guidance to me through my life at a time that maybe I would have been a child who would have been at risk.”
