October 22nd, 2025 by WCBC Radio

The Allegany County Sheriff's Office Crash Team has been investigating the hit and run of a pedestrian on Route 51 in Oldtown that occurred during the early morning hours of Saturday October 18, 2025. A motor vehicle crash had occurred and the driver of that vehicle had extracted themselves from the vehicle but while he was standing in the roadway being assisted by other motorists, a light colored pickup truck drove by striking him causing serious physical injury. The light colored pickup truck then immediately turned around and fled south on Route 51. The injured driver was flown by Trooper 5 to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnston, PA for serious injuries and was in critical condition at that time.

During the course of the investigation, the scene of the crash was examined and multiple witnesses were interviewed. Major Dave Morgan received a tip just before the Sheriff's Office Facebook page was requesting assistance from the public with identifying the suspect vehicle. The Crash Team followed up with that information including the other tips provided by the public which resulted in numerous other interviews as well as witnesses coming forward.

As a result of the investigation, an application for charges was submitted to the District Court and an arrest warrant was issued for Braden Lee Powell (19 years old) of Oldtown, MD. The arrest warrant was served on October 22, 2025 and he is currently in Central Booking at the Allegany County Detention Center pending his initial appearance in District Court. The Allegany County Sheriff's Office would like to thank the public for the tips they provided along with all of their help in this investigation.
