The City of Cumberland is aware of a series of fraudulent emails being sent to citizens. These emails use the City’s logo and names, potentially requesting online payments. The City would like to advise any recipients of these emails to verify with the appropriate City officials BEFORE paying any unexpected bills. Along with verifying with City officials, you are able to view or pay any legitimate bills on our website at this link: https://www.ci.cumberland.md.us/131/Online-Payments.
This link will provide all legitimate City of Cumberland billing or payment systems. The City of Cumberland would like to remind citizens that any official City of Cumberland email communications will come from an email address that ends in “@cumberlandmd.gov”. Many of the fraudulent emails are coming from an address with “@usa.com”, this email address has NO AFFILIATION with the City of Cumberland.
We ask that you REVIEW AND VERIFY the email address on any communications to avoid possible scams. If you are in doubt about any email requesting payment or receive an unexpected bill, DO NOT SEND PAYMENT and contact the City’s IT Department at 301-759-6408 or the Cumberland Police Department at 301-777-1600 to verify. Please report any suspicious or fraudulent emails immediately to the Cumberland Police Department at 301-777-1600.
The Cumberland Police Department is actively looking to identify the source of the fraudulent communications. Updates regarding the situation will be provided through the City of Cumberland official website and social media pages.
