Commissioners Send Letter On Water Issues

November 24th, 2025 by WCBC Radio

A letter has been sent to Governor Wes Moore’s office from the Allegany County Commissioners, backing the Western Maryland delegation request for a state of emergency regarding the Bel Air water system. If accepted the declaration would allow the state attorney general to open an investigation of Maryland Water Service and their business practices. Administrator Jason Bennett says the letter requests rapid relief…

“It declares a state of emergency for that area, temporarily halts water shutoffs for affected residents, deploy mobile water and sanitation units for short term relief, direct the public service commission to review Maryland Water Service rates and billing practices, and then finally to work with the Maryland Department of Environment ot fast-track emergency funding and assistance programs.”
