Cumberland has somewhat of an insider’s view on the work of Maryland’s redistricting advisory commission. Mayor Ray Morriss sits on the commission as the only Republican and has now sat through two rounds of virtual public hearings, receiving input from citizens across the state. He believes there should be good reasons to determine redistricting, not just those for political gain…
“Fair districts are districts that are competitive. By being competitive, you create an environment in which you get people elected who are more willing to work across party lines because they’re going to be accountable when they go back to their citizens.”
The next virtual hearing is scheduled for December 5th at 4pm.
