Allegany County continues recovery efforts from damages suffered in May’s flood, and county leaders are doing all they can to get FEMA to reverse their decision denying federal recovery funds. The county’s request for $15 million in funding was denied with no clear reason. While rare, there is a precedent that the funding decision can be reversed according to Senator Mike McKay…
“Absolutely. You can look right to Ellicott City. Ellicott City when it had its flooding a couple years ago and then a year later flooded again, one of their applications was denied. And it all had to do with the threshold and it was reversed.”
McKay said they are also reaching out to Maryland Congressman Andy Harris and others to help change the decision…
“We’re reaching out to his office to help us reach Secretary Noem at Homeland Security where FEMA is parked. Then we’re also reaching out to the Vice President, J.D. Vance.”
