With a 43-day government shutdown that cut off SNAP funding to over 230,000 Marylanders, Congresswoman April McClain Delaney is introducing legislation to safeguard access to food should another lapse in benefits occurs. “When SNAP assistance is halted, the burden shifts to local food pantries, funded by The Emergency Food Assistance Program or TEFAP, which typically provides one meal for every nine offered through SNAP. My legislation would automatically double TEFAP funding during future funding lapses.”
