Maryland Delegate Mike Griffith, a Republican from Cecil and Harford counties, plans legislation later this year addressing issues within the state’s foster care system. Following the death of a girl in the custody of the Department of Health and Human Services, the legislation would prohibit placing foster children in hotels for more than a week without review and authorization and require background checks for one-on-one providers. Griffith, who was in foster care from age 12 to 18, told WBFF TV he does not want to see other children failed by the system…
“You hear a lot of conversations here in Maryland about the most vulnerable populations. Well, when you’re talking about foster kids, you’re talking about a vulnerable population with in many cases significant trauma they have to work through and we’re only adding to that trauma.”
