DNR Proposes E-Bikes on Trails

September 2nd, 2025 by WCBC Radio

Maryland’s Department of Natural Resources is considering new regulations that would allow the use of pedal-assist electric bicycles on state bike trails. The move would increase accessibility to the state’s public lands. Previously, e-bikes have been restricted to roads and parking lots. The proposal comes in response to the increased popularity of e-bikes where sales have increased four-fold since 2019. Public comment on the proposal will be accepted through September 22.
