Year-end giving offers benefits for both giver and receiver. Non-profits hoping to finish the year strong rely on giving to finish out budgets and do year-end events. For givers, it isn’t just about being able to give to a worthy charitable organization. John Short, Vice President of University Advancement at Frostburg State University, explains that giving has tax benefits as well…
“Give a gift to a non-profit organization such as FSU directly from your IRA and it doesn’t count as income. So that’s a good thing. Especially when you get to 73 and the withdrawal is mandated.”
Short said for such donations to avoid being taxable income, donors must keep a hands-off approach…
“The entity, the investment company, the bank, wherever you’re IRA or other retirement account is held, they have to send directly to the non-profit organization such as FSU.”
