The Heritage Area Management Plan through Canal Place was set to expand the Passages of the Western Potomac area in January of 2026.  However, with Cumberland, Frostburg and Allegany County all working on their comprehensive plans, DeDe Richie, Director of Canal Place, says the expansion plans will have to wait and may not be complete for another year-and-a-half…

   

“By the time that it goes through public hearing and the Maryland Heritage Area, who has 90 days to review, I’m thinking it’s going to be July of 2027 when all this happens.”
