Holidays through the year can be a time for socializing with family and friends, but stress, loneliness, and worries that accompany them can trigger a relapse for some Marylanders with substance addictions. Cooper Zelnick, CEO of Groups Recover Together, a provider of outpatient addiction treatment, says holidays can be either a time of increased risk or a turning point toward recovery and that’s where assistance is needed…
"This is a disease of isolation. The disease makes you think and feel that you're the only person who's ever had this experience. You're not. So, reaching out, being honest about what you're going through and asking for help is the best suggestion. We as a society need to invest in resources that folks can access irrespective of where they are. But we also need to build access where the problem is.”
