Not Frozen Enough: People Fall Through Deep Creek Ice

December 31st, 2017 by WCBC Radio

Just before 3 PM Saturday afternoon, the Water Rescue Team and firemen from Deep Creek and Oakland Volunteer Fire Departments were called to Deep Creek Lake in the area of Glendale Bridge after a report of persons through the ice in that area. Those involved were able to get out of the water, but it points to the fact that even with the cold weather, it's not thick.

Allegany County received some snow from Friday into Saturday, with 2 to 4 inches falling in the Frostburg area. The National Weather Service indicates that 8 to 12 inches of snow fell in the mountains to our west, with the highest amounts in the Elk Garden and Mount Storm areas. Winter Storm Warnings were posted into early Sunday by forecasters.
