Maryland ranks in the top ten states for teacher pay, with an average salary of more than $84,000, according to the National Education Association. The Economic Policy Institute shows Maryland teachers make nearly 27% less than other college graduates with similar levels of education.  Sylvia Allegretto, with EPI, says the cost of becoming a teacher matters more as the pay gap widens…

  

“The average of teacher pay over the last 30 years has been pretty stagnant, where the pay of other college graduates has increased significantly.  Teachers have the future of the country in front of them each and every day, so it has a consequence for the nation, as well as obviously for those students, their families and the communities they’re from."
