On Thursday, July 31st, 2025, the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 400 block of Pennsylvania Avenue for an assault. Upon arrival, officers made contact with a victim on the scene. The victim advised they had been assaulted by Richard Shawn Edwards. Officers were able to observe injuries consistent to the victim's statement, and placed Edwards under arrest. He was transported to the Allegany County Detention Center, and later released on his own recognizance after seeing a District Court Commissioner.
