Proposed Power Line Has Opposition, Options

August 21st, 2025 by WCBC Radio

An increase in the need for electricity across the country has suppliers scrambling to find ways to keep that need met. The Mid-Atlantic Resilience Link would bring power from Pennsylvania through West Virginia and Maryland and into Virginia for data centers. Tony Campbell of WATI – West Virginians Against Transmission Injustice, says there is mounting opposition to that line…

“Mon County, Preston County, Hampshire County, and Mineral County – all four county commissions have come out in loud opposition to the MARL lines. Just last week, the city of Morgantown came out in opposition and Senator Chris Rose, one of our state senators, has come out with probably now a dozen delegates.”

Former Maryland State Senator John Bambacus says there are options for powering data centers…

“The technology is there to build what they call dispatchable units which are actually, some can be as small as a small nuclear plant, for a data center.”
