A community update meeting for the River Park Project at Canal Place was held last night at the Allegany Museum. Just shy of 100 community members along with local elected officials attended in support of the project. With $10 million secured for the project as a whole, the approval of required permits are pending, as well as $700,000 from ARC for the sediment testing. Canal Place board chair, Colleen Peterson, said a shovel could be in the ground as soon as 2026 or early 2027…
“We need to see how the first phase goes to lead into the second. To some degree, they will crossover. You know, we can do the sediment testing once we get that extra funding that we’re waiting on, and then the third phase—even though it all flows together—is the river features. At this table we’re talking—I would like to see this all done and get in the water with my grandkids by 2030. That would be my hope.”
