Solar Advocates Rally for Legislation to Make Energy Affordable

December 15th, 2025 by WCBC Radio

Lawmakers and clean energy advocates hope to pass legislation in next year’s General Assembly that they say would make solar energy more affordable and accessible. The bill being drafted would require certain funds collected from utility companies to go toward improving solar energy capacity.  Balcony solar panels would also be legalized that can simply be plugged into an outlet.  Maryland Delegate Lori Charkoudian says the bill could lower energy costs…

“There would be no increase for ratepayers, and the increased solar would put downward pressure on energy rates, either net neutral or net beneficial in terms of the impact on the actual rates that people are seeing on their energy bills.”
