On Tuesday, December 2, 2025, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business in the 700 block of Park Street for a shoplifting complaint.  Police contacted the staff who reported that the suspect stole several items from the store and fled the area.  After further investigation, a suspect was developed and identified as Timothy Mejais.   Police later located Mejais on Springdale Street.  He was arrested and transported to police headquarters. He was issued a criminal citation for theft and also served with two criminal summonses.   The summonses were issued as the result of separate incidents that occurred when police responded to a business in the 400 block of Virginia Avenue for shoplifting complaints, one occurring on November 23, 2025 and the other occurring on November 28, 2025.  Mejais was identified as the suspect in both incidents and charges were filed at the District Court of Allegany County.  Mejais was later released pending trial.
