ANIMAL SHELTER REORGANIZES – In October, the entire Animal Shelter Management Foundation along with the Shelter Director and Manager resigned their positions, leaving Allegany County government scrambling to find a solution for care of over 400 dogs and cats. The county quickly took control of the no-kill shelter, contracting with the staff that had resigned to return to work. The Animal Control Board has been reinstated and county is working to move forward with more oversight on the business of the shelter.

REDISTRICTING TAKES ON LOCAL FLAVOR –Governor Wes Moore in October of this year decided that Maryland should look at redistricting, following the lead of other states looking to gain congressional seats during mid-cycle elections. Democrats were in full support of the effort although a Republican holds only one of eight districts in Maryland. Moore’s commission of five members includes only one Republican – Cumberland Mayor Ray Morriss. Hearings have been held but no decision is in place.

WCBC BEGINS 50th YEAR OF BUSINESS – WCBC Radio began the celebration of its 50th year of broadcasting on April 19th.
