The Allegany County Commissioners on Thursday approved an agreement with the Community Trust Foundation to create the Friends of the Allegany County Animal Shelter fund.  County Administrator Jason Bennett said this fund will give citizens a tax-deductible location for donations…

  

“We then have the ability to draw down those funds as we need them for both capital and operating items at the shelter. So this is a really good thing, it makes it easier for us to handle operations, it gives us a source.”

Commissioner Bill Atkinson and Bennett both remarked that the public has been asking for a place to donate funds…

“Yeah, there’s been a lot of folks who have wanted to give to the shelter and we just haven’t had a mechanism to do it. It was good to get it in before the end of the year I think – a lot of people like to give this time of year. Jason – And the response has been overwhelming. We’ve actually put people on hold until we could get this thing propped up so we’re hoping that generosity kind of continues.”
